What are Lingual Braces?

Lingual braces are braces placed on the inner side or the tongue side of teeth. They are the most invisible among braces. They are often used as a brace option for adult and adolescent patients. They are also a good option for patients who take part in contact sports. It takes two to three hours to fit lingual braces.

How long should I wear Lingual Braces?

Patients need to wear lingual braces for from one to four years. The length of time depends on the unique requirements of each individual patient.

Is getting Lingual Braces fitted painful?

Fitting lingual braces is not painful. Patients may feel pain or discomfort until they get used to wearing lingual braces. Getting adjusted to lingual braces may take a week or ten days. Pain killers are prescribed to make adjustment easy.

How are Lingual Braces fitted?

An impression of the teeth of patients is taken and customized brackets are fabricated. The brackets are glued on the inner surface of teeth and wires are woven through the brackets and secured. The braces work by exerting pressure on teeth and moving them to the correct position.   

What care is required after fitting Lingual Braces?

Patients should take the prescribed medications correctly. They should attend orthodontist appointments correctly and get their braces adjusted. They should avoid eating hard food products. They should practice correct dental hygiene and brush and floss their teeth regularly.
