What care is required after fitting an Orthodontic Retainer?

Patients should wear retainers continuously, between meals, and at night. They should remove their retainer while taking part in contact sports. They should clean retainers using special products prescribed by the dentist. Some retainers can be cleaned using toothpaste while others require an alcohol free mouth rinse or denture cleaner.  Patients should not expose retainers to any form of heat.

I am a patient at this practice. I phoned for an emergency appointment due to toothache. I was seen within two and a half hours. The reception ladies were so kind and helpful. Dr Scott was, as usual, excellent and the dental nurse put me completely at ease - she was lovely. I had a tooth extracted which was painless and quick. It was excellent value and everywhere was clean, bright and warm. Emma, the hygienist, is also a delight. All in all, highly recommended. I live 20 miles away and it's well worth travelling the distance.

We would like to share with you our interesting journey as to how we became owners of such a fantastic practice. There has been a dental practice at 251 Jockey Road since 1956. In 1985 David and Deborah Hughes took over the practice and ran it together for 28 years. Both Kate and I without knowing one another were patients of David and Deborah from our early teens. After many years of asking David how to become a Dentist I eventually opted to become a Dentist and qualified from the University of Birmingham in 2006. I met my wife Kate in 2007 whilst snowboarding in the Alps and we eventually married in 2012. It was somewhat amusing when we realised our families shared the same Dentist. Having got to know David and Deborah over many years, we were extremely proud to have been asked to take over the running of Boldmere Dental Practice. We are now privileged to be part of such a fantastic team and our aim is to assist our patients on a journey of dental health and happiness.

I had been unhappy with some of my teeth for many years. After a consultation with Mr Shah I decided to go down the route of tooth implant. Right from the start, I have to say this is not a cheap option. However, having decided on this I must say that the procedure was as painless as it possibly could be. It is a long process as Mr Shah prefers for everything to heal properly rather than rush things through. Everything was explained to me thoroughly and I am delighted with the results.
