A good practitioner can assess the cause or source of the imbalance or pain in your body and help restore it to its natural patterns, thereby facilitating recovery.  Acupuncture requires the insertion of hair-fine sterilized needles into specific points on the body to stimulate one’s Qi or natural energy.  Mairin may also choose to apply heat to the acupuncture points or stimulate them by techniques called moxibustion and electro-stimulation, which are variations of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

I have been practising Traditional Five Element Acupuncture since 2001, I am fully insured and registered with the British Acupuncture Council with a LicAc license and BA (Hons) degree. Prof M Saleem Khan is the Founder President and Former Principal of the Acupuncture Foundation of Ireland. Since 1987 he has trained over 600 professionals in how to apply Cosmetic Acupuncture in such a way that there is no need of facial injectibles.  He also does Okland Massage, a cupping therapy special technique which uplifts the face, gets rid of wrinkles, firms the tummy, boosts your energy and may have many more benefits. Prof Khan is also a visiting associate professor at one of the most prestigious universities, Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  He is also a Pain Specialist and has worked in this capacity over the last 28 years.

The Elland Well Being Centre is a newly refurbished centre, having previously been a pub in its hey day.  It is found just at the bend down Briggate in Elland, before the road goes over the bridge towards Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge. The acupuncture room is found on the first floor up a flight of stairs.  It is well furnished with a physiotherapy plinth which allows patients to get on easily, whether they are seated or laid down for treatment.  There is a small waiting area just outside the room on the first floor. The Centre has its own dedicated car part for service users with a disabled space.  Service users then access the Centre via the Entrance there, which has a buzzer system  to let people in outside office hours. At the front of the Centre there is a cafe which is open to members of the public and a small waiting area for day time appointments.  There is a reception area to the front but this is just for the physiotherapy staff only. Appointments are made by telephoning Balquees Ali or emailing.
