Overview;
Dr Henry, a Consultant Physician
in Sports & Exercise Medicine, has over 20 years experience in assessing,
diagnosing and treating acute and recurrent musculoskeletal pain and injury in
active people, whether sustained from occupational, recreational or sporting
activities. She is an active member of the Irish sports medicine community and
a recent board member of the Faculty of Sports & Exercise Medicine.
She has worked with a wide range
of sports including Soccer, GAA, Athletics, Rowing, Rugby, Swimming and
Triathlon. She has extensive experience in the administrations of joint and
soft tissue injections and in the prescription of therapeutic exercise as part
of rehabilitation after injury or surgery.
Background:
A native of Galway and a UCG graduate, Dr Henry completed
specialist training in Sports & Exercise Medicine at the University of
London.
I
n 1994 She
trained and qualified as a member of the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine.
From 1998 -
2000, she was Team Physician to the Connacht Rugby Team & a member of the
IRFU Medical Advisory Committee.
From 2002 –
2004, she served as Honorary Secretary to the Board of the Faculty of Sports
& Exercise Medicine, Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) &
Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI)
From 2003 –
2007, she worked with Irish Elite & Olympic & Para-olympic athletes as
Medical Screening Coordinator for
the National Coaching and Training Centre (NCTC), University of Limerick.
In 2007/2008
she served as a Member of the Advisory Board to the Irish Institute of Sport.
From
2005 – 2010, she was Programme Director of the Masters in Sports & Exercise
Medicine and Physiotherapy Programmes at National University of Ireland,
Galway.
Dr
Henry has worked as Team Doctor to the British Rowing Team, Galway United
Football Club, the Irish Women’s Soccer Team and the Connacht Rugby Team.
