About Brain And Spinal Injury Centre

BASIC provides specialist centre-based rehabilitation services for people who have sustained brain and spinal injuries. These injuries vary from Stroke, Traumatic Head Injury, Brain Haemorrhage, brain tumour or similar condition. The services that we provide also help people manage long-term neurological conditions. 


We have a range of rehabilitation services on offer from:

  • What you do: 

    I manage the gym at BASIC and do neuro-assessments for clients with neurological conditions who have been referred to BodyBasic. This includes prescribing a programme of using the gym equipment and, if necessary, advice on exercise, 6-monthly and annual reviews. 

    In addition, I network with the community therapy teams, Stroke Association and university lecturers involved with neurology. I am actively involved in research with collaborative studies at the universities for the virtual reality equipment at BASIC. I am involved in delivering presentations at various venues. 

    Qualifications: 

    • MSc in Physiotherapy in Neurology 
    • BA (open university) SR physiotherapy 
    • Certificate of completion - Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment training 

Mr Mike Greaney

Biography:

What you do: I complete neuro-assessments for clients with neurological conditions who have been referred to BodyBasic and our virtual reality programme. For each of our clients, I draw up bespoke rehab and technology exercise programmes. In addition, I work at the University of Central Lancashire as a lecturer in physiotherapy.

My work involves being on hand to help people in the BodyBASIC gym. I also sees clients that may need nutritional advice. I also conduct acupuncture sessions for clients that need help with pain management.

  • Diploma in Nutrition and Health

Ms Wendy Edge

Biography:

What do you do?: My work involves meeting the needs of BASIC employees, service users, customers, funders, investors and charity trustees. This includes developing a strategy and vision, business planning, bid writing and building a positive culture managing BASIC's capital. 

I am also an accredited CBT and EMDR Therapist. 

Qualifications: BA(hons), Post Grad' Diploma in Personnel Management, Post Grad Diploma and MSc in CBT, accredited EMDR therapy UK and Ireland.

What you do: My work includes day-to-day running of the computer assisted rehabilitation environment (CAREN) as part of our AIR service, helping BASIC staff and clients get the most of this remarkable piece of cutting edge technology.
