Biography:
Doctor Tapan’s initial surgical training was at the Medical college, Gujarat. He spent 11 years in the medical school including his General Surgery Residency. He did his Sub Speciality Residency in World renowned institute of India, in the field of Liver and Gastrointestinal Surgery, during which he published a research thesis on Portal Fibrosis He then obtained Residency in DIGESTIVE Surgery with FACS in the US, following which he trained and worked at world’s most renowned centers (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) for Liver and Biliary Surgery, and Liver, Kidney, Small Bowel and Pancreas transplantation for 3 years. He was one of the first few surgeons in the US to qualify for and obtain an Intercollegiate Fellowship and Ph.d in Pediatric Transplant Surgery. In addition to performing hundreds of G I Surgery and Hepatobiliary Surgery, he was Inclined towards Regenerative Medicine at University of Edmonton for Islet cell Transplantation and [Treatment name removed] therapy. More than hundred of his original research papers and book contributions have been published / in international / national journals and books. In the beginning of 2008, he gave up the opportunity of a Faculty post at University of Pittsburgh and chose to return to India to establish a centre of excellence in Surgical Gastroenterology and Hepatobiliary Surgery in his own country. Research Papers and Invited Lectures He has published more than 100 research papers and book chapters, and delivered more than 250 invited lectures and papers all over the world in his field. He is also the Editor of India’s first comprehensive book in the field called “Common Surgeon Mistakes in G.I. Surgeries” which has already sold 15,000 copies.
