Refractive Surgery Evaluation (15 mins)
During the initial refractive surgery evaluation, you will receive specialized eye studies to determine if you are a good candidate for laser vision correction. These include:
- Pentacam corneal tomography to determine your cornea's shape and thickness
- HD Analyzer eye surface test and visual quality testing
- Lensometry to get your current glasses prescription
- Autorefractor test to estimate your eyes' prescription
- Subjective refraction to measure your eyes' prescription
- Tonometry to measure your eyes' pressures
- Dry eye tests including Schirmer and Fluorescein stain
- Pupil dilation to perform a dilated fundus examination
- Slit lamp examination to evaluate the front part of your eyes.
Depending on your exam results, we may have to perform additional studies if your prescription is too high or your corneas are too thin and irregular to safely perform laser surgery. We will evaluate for a different type of refractive surgery based on lens implants that can also effectively correct your vision (ICL or implantable collamer lenses).
If we determine that your natural crystalline lenses are cloudy (due to cataracts), we may perform additional studies to accurately measure your eyes so that we can precisely calculate the lens implants (IOL or intraocular lenses) that will be placed in your eyes after the cataracts are removed.
