He was in private dental practice from 1977 – 1984 after which he enrolled for post-graduate studies. He attained a Masters Degree in Maxillo-Facial and Oral Surgery in 1988. In October 1988 he commenced his private practice as a Maxillo-Facial and Oral Surgeon in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. He was a committee member of the Natal branch of the Dental Association of South Africa from 1988 – 1998 and a member of the Executive Committee of the South African Society of Oral and Maxillo-Facial surgeons from 1998 – 2006. He is also an Associate member of the International Society of Oral and Maxillo-Facial surgeons. He has attended numerous International Conferences, workshops and refresher courses on a regular basis in the field of Oral and maxillo-facial surgery as well as Implantology. He was part of the team at the Centre for Dental Implants in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

After working in private practice he moved to the United Kingdom . Further post graduate training in implant and cosmetic treatments were achieved in the UK, South Africa, Clinica Malo (Portugal) and the California Centre for Advanced Dental Studies (USA). Dr Dirks is highly experienced in implant and reconstructive dentistry. He enjoys giving people their smile back with the help of implant reconstruction and cosmetic treatments. His aim is to help people achieve a healthy and desirable smile. He can also give an opinion on your overall facial aesthetics and explain how facial line smoothing and fillers can compliment dentistry revitalising your appearance, enhancing your natural look.

A dental specialist in the areas of Periodontics and Implantology with over thirty years experience in both of these disciplines. In addition to working as a mainstream Periodontist, the close interaction between Periodontal and Restorative dentistry is a particularly favourite area of interest, working closely with both general dentists and other specialists to facilitate seamless interaction and coordination of all forms of dental treatment. Has placed over eight thousand implants and is involved in direct one to one teaching and clinical work with colleagues in all aspects of Periodontics and Implant/Restorative dental treatment.
