About Lostwithiel Dental Surgery

We are a modern, forward thinking surgery providing NHS and Private dental care and other dental and facial treatments to the community around mid Cornwall. There has been a dental surgery in Lostwithiel for many years treating the needs of the local community. We have put considerable investment into the practice to relocate to new premises which can offer services to an increasing number of patients in and around the area. We have a large reception and waiting area, 9 surgeries and a private consultation room. Lostwithiel Dental Surgery is a well-established dental surgery and are proud of the care we offer our patients. We provide NHS treatment as well as a private practice care plan and non-routine services such as cosmetic dentistry, tooth whitening, dental implants, orthodontics , sedation and specialist services.

Finley qualified from Liverpool University in 1997 with honours and spent several years working in hospital based oral and facial surgery departments. After a year working in New Zealand at University of Otago Dental school and in private practice Finley moved to Cornwall in 2002 and has been practice owner/principal dentist since 2006. Since then, he has put considerable investment into the future of the practice by relocating to larger premises in 2011 and in 2017, completing the expansion to include a new private and referral suite and Facial Aesthetic clinic ‘Dermaworks Cornwall’.

Finley has extensive oral surgery and advanced restorative and cosmetic dental experience. He has been placing and restoring dental implants since 2002 and providing facial aesthetic solutions since 2004 and orthodontic treatments since 2012. He regularly attends training seminars nationally and internationally to update his skills.

Since 2011 Finley has been an approved Foundation Dentist trainer where he has been keen to share his experience as a mentor for newly qualified dentists with the practice proudly helping them in the first stages of their careers.

Finley is also actively serving on the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Dental Committee and is a dental advisor to NHS England (Southwest) where he supports colleagues and is helping to secure and develop NHS services in the region.

Neil was born and grew up in Truro. He qualified from Cardiff in 2003 and subsequently completed his vocational training and a number of house officer jobs gaining experience in sedation, oral surgery, restorative dentistry and prosthetics. Neil returned home in 2007 to work in a private practice in the west of Cornwall. Since then Neil has completed a MSc in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry and has been a clinical supervisor at Peninsula Dental School. Neil also provides Invisalign at the practice.

Dai gained his B.D.S. from Bristol University in 1983. This was followed by maxillofacial hospital posts. In 1994 Dai gained his F.D.S. from the Royal College of Surgeons in London. Over the years Dai has been an Associate, a Partner, and a Practice Owner as well as being a both a Trainer for foundation dentists and has been a Clinical Supervisor at the Peninsula Dental School. Dai has a special interest in Orthodontics and Implantology and has been placing implants since the mid 1990’s.

In 2021 Dai increased his days to 3 days a week.

After graduating from Leeds Dental Institute in 1998 Ali worked in general practice and private clinics in oxford and London before joining us at the Carriage Works 5 years ago.

She has worked for more than 15 years in fantastic practices of varying sizes in Oxford, London and now in Cornwall and is passionate about treating patients with periodontal conditions. Ali firmly believes that we can make a difference to patients with periodontal conditions by treatment given at the surgery but more importantly by motivating patients to take interest in their own dental health. Ali’s patients are aware that periodontal disease is an ongoing problem but can be stabilized and managed effectively. This will have a positive impact on the patient’s dental heath and well being.

Those of you that have met Ali will know that her professionalism , attention to detail and patient care is second to none which is why we are delighted that she will now be working alongside Finley Bason providing facial aesthetics.

Ali has spent the last few years studying dermatology , skin remodelling to MSc level and injectables.

Ali is also able to offer treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) with a simple procedure lasting up to 6 months.

After graduating in 2012 from Birmingham University Adam worked in general practice in Exmouth for two years. Since then he has completed further training in orthodontics , dental implants and sedation . He was based in Newquay between 2014 and 2018, where he built on these skills, and has been a joint FD trainer at the practice along side Fin mentoring and supporting our foundation dentist.

Adam is part of our sedation team and can provide sedation for patients that have fears or anxieties of dental treatment.

Jade started her dental career as a dental nurse in 2008 before qualifying as a Dental Hygienist and Therapist in 2016 from the University of Sheffield. Her career has included working for the Royal Navy, supervising students at the university of Plymouth, working in both NHS and private dental practices and she is also on the committee for the British Society of Dental hygiene and Therapy for the South west.

Jade particularly enjoys motivating patients to improve their oral hygiene and is passionate about treating periodontal disease (Gum disease). As a dental therapist she is also able to carry out restorative work and cover a range of Paediatric treatments.

Natalie is a dentist with Special Interest in Endodontics. Natalie qualified as a dentist from Birmingham University in 2007, where she won the James Youngson Prize for Introductory Clinical Dentistry and completed a voluntary special study module in endodontics. Following this, Natalie gained experience working in dental practices throughout Cornwall and during 2016-2017 went on to complete her MSc in endodontics at the prestigious UCL Eastman Dental Institute in London. Natalie presented her MSc research poster at the British Endodontic Society Spring Scientific Meeting in London in March 2018.

Natalie also works as a Clinical Supervisor at Plymouth University Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry in Truro and as an MFDS examiner with the Royal College of Surgeons Faculty of Dental Surgery in London. She has provided endodontic lectures and practical teaching to undergraduate dental students and general dental practitioners.

Natalie is passionate about providing the best possible endodontic care to her patients, attending conferences and reading journals in order to keep up-to-date with the latest research and techniques. She also has a very calming manner with her patients and always aims to ensure that the treatment process is as comfortable as possible.

Khalid joined the Carriage Works Team in October 2022. Khalid qualified from Cairo University (Egypt) in 2008 and then went on the complete a Masters degree in Periodontology in 2016.

During his career in Egypt Khalid has been a lecturer assistant of periodontology and also co-owner of 2 practices. Khalid relocated to the UK and registered with the GDC in 2020.

Jack grew up in Plymouth, also living in Brighton and Truro briefly. He studied biomedical science before going on to study dentistry at Plymouth University. He graduated in 2018 and completed his foundation training in Lostwithiel in August 2019 . After a successful year Jack stayed with us as an associate dentist.

When not studying Jack has spent a lot of time travelling around the world. This included some time in Africa where he volunteered in providing dental treatment to remote communities.

Jack has now started a postgraduate certificate in restorative dentistry, become a supervisor at the dental school and is also supporting Cath with her dental nursing qualification ( A very busy 2021 for Jack! )

Jack enjoys hiking, cycling, rock climbing and surfing. He is interested in paddle boarding and scuba diving and would like to improve on these.
