Metal Ceramic Crowns - tooth coloured porcelain fused to metal. Less aesthetic than all ceramic crowns.

All Ceramic Crowns - no metal, very aesthetic. These have a zirconium or alumina base which gives them outstanding strength.

Full Gold Crowns - extremely strong but not aesthetic.

Flexible Partial Dentures
Valplast Dentures are flexible partial dentures. They are less bulky than conventional acrylic dentures, do not require unsightly metal clasps, and are virtually invisible in the mouth. They are made from unbreakable nylon fibre, and come with a lifetime guarantee.

Amalgam Filling
Silver Amalgam fillings are the basic fillings which are available on the NHS. Many people opt for composite/white fillings (see below) for teeth which can be seen when speaking or smiling.
 
White Filling
White/composite fillings (mercury free) are an aesthetic alternative to silver amalgam filings. If you have dark or discoloured fillings that are noticeable when smiling or laughing you may consider getting them changed to white fillings.
 
Gingivitis Treatment
 
Gum Surgery
Electrosurgery is a precise application of heat to allow controlled cutting of soft tissues. There is immediate haemostasis (stops bleeding) and the wound is virtually painless after the procedure.
This technique can be used to reshape gum margins for an improved cosmetic appearance and to remove excess tissues to allow teeth to be restored which may be otherwise unrestorable. Local anaesthetic is given for this procedure.
 
HealOzone™ Treatment
Discovery Dental Care is one of the few practices in Scotland to offer HealOzone treatment. In some circumstances it can slow down or stop decay before filings are required. If fillings are required it can reduce or eliminate the need for local anaesthetic and drilling.
 
Hygienist Session
Preventative dentistry is an important part of routine dental care which we provide in conjunction with our hygienist. Advice on tooth brushing, interdental cleaning, mouthwashes, and diet advice are extremely important to help reduce and prevent gum disease and decay. We also offer HealOzone treatment which can help stop small lesions developing and prevent fillings.

Root canals
Root Treatment is needed when the blood or nerve supply (pulp) of the tooth is infected through decay or trauma. This leads to an abscess, which is an inflamed area where pus collects and causes pain and swelling. The aim of root treatment is to remove the infection from the root canal. The root is then cleaned and filled to prevent further infection.

GDC Number 79670 Angela graduated from the University of Dundee in 2001. After working in Fife, she joined the practice in 2003. In 2006 Angela and Avril went into partnership and formed Discovery Dental Care. Angela enjoys all aspects of dentistry but has a particular interest in restorative and cosmetic dentistry. She is currently undertaking a 3 year diploma course in Advanced Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry. Angela is also a Six Month Smiles provider. Angela also works one session a week as a Speciality Dentist/Visiting GDP in the Restorative Department at Dundee Dental School. Since 2009 the practice has been a Vocational Dental Practitioner Training Practice. Angela and Avril work as Joint Trainers supervising and assisting newly qualified dentists on a yearly basis. Angela is also actively involved with the SDPBRN (Scottish Dental Practice Based Research Network). The aim of the SDPBRN is to encourage, facilitate and conduct high quality research in primary dental care. Since 2011 Angela has been a member of the Local Dental Committee. In her spare time Angela enjoys trying to keep fit and spending time with her family.

GDC Number 66502 Avril graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1991. She completed her Vocational Training in the practice and continued on working while it was owned by the Crighton family. She has owned the practice since 2002 and went into partnership with Angela in 2006 to form Discovery Dental Care. Avril enjoys all aspects of dentistry but has a particular interest in restorative and cosmetic dentistry. She is currently undertaking a 3 year diploma course in Advanced Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry. The practice has been a Vocational Dental Practitioner Training Practice since 2009. Both Avril and Angela work as joint Trainers supervising and assisting newly qualified dentists. Avril works one session a week as a Speciality/Visiting GDP in the Restorative Department at Dundee Dental School. Outwith dentistry, Avril likes to keep fit by playing tennis and attending the gym. She spends most of her free time enjoying time with her family and dogs.
