About Smiles Orthodontics

Our office offers orthodontic treatments for children, adolescents and adults. Our office deals exclusively with alignment of teeth and jaws. And because we are specialized, it allows our office to deliver quality treatment results in a very efficient manner.

Types of treatments:

Early Childhood orthodontics:

Although majority of patients receive orthodontic treatment in their early teens, some dental conditions need to be corrected at an earlier age to prevent major problems from developing in the future. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that your child get an orthodontic check-up no later than age 7.

Two phase orthodontics:

As children transition from baby teeth to adult teeth, they go through a “mixed” dentition stage where both adult and baby teeth exist in the mouth at the same time.  If dental problems occur during this stage, it often becomes necessary for the treatment to be broken up in to two parts.  Two-phase orthodontic treatment consists of two separate times when a child receives orthodontic treatment.  A first phase of treatment is done while the child still has many or most of their primary or “baby” teeth.  A second phase takes place when the child has most or all of their permanent teeth.  Braces may or may not be used during a first phase of treatment.  Between the two phases, there is usually a waiting period while the teeth erupt.

Adolescent orthodontics:

Adolescence is usually the ideal time for patients to receive orthodontic treatment.  Most common problems such as crowding and minor jaw imbalances can be corrected readily at this age.  The rapid growth that occurs during adolescence can be used to correct variety of dental and skeletal problems.   Once the bones have fully developed, certain conditions can only be corrected with surgical assistance.

Adult orthodontics:

Today, growing number of adult patients are seeking orthodontic care.  Dr. Omneya recently completed a stunning case for a lovely lady.  She was thrilled with the results.  She also happened to be 52.  Approximately a quarter of Dr. Omneya's patients are adults.

Types of appliances:

Traditional Metal braces:
Traditional metal braces have proven to be effective and reliable instruments to move teeth for over 100 years.  They are the most commonly used appliances for orthodontic patients.

Ceramic braces (Tooth colored braces)
These are a great alternative to traditional braces for patients seeking orthodontic treatment without the metal braces.  Ceramic braces can often treat cases which are too complex for clear aligners.

Intra-oral appliances such as expanders, headgears, jaw positioners, etc.
There are several appliances which modify the shape and position of the facial bones. These appliances are often used in conjunction with braces to achieve dramatic results.

Habit breakers
Thumb sucking habits, tongue thrust habits, and lip sucking habits can cause devastating changes in the dentition. These habits should not persist once the adult teeth have erupted. If the child is ready to stop the habit, our office can provide appliances to help disrupt and break the offending habit.

Retainers
Retainers are used to hold the teeth in place after the braces have been removed. Teeth have a tendency to drift back to their old positions after the treatment. Consistent retainer wear throughout lifetime will guarantee that the teeth remain in their corrected positions. Our office offers three types of retainers: Traditional, Clear, and Bonded. Our office will discuss these options in greater detail with you during your consultation
