She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Acadia University, and graduated from Dalhousie Dental School in 1991 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery.

After graduation, Kilby married Dr. Daniel Albert, and they travelled together to Lahr, Germany -- where Dr. Albert was serving in the Canadian Forces.
