Close Dental

Paul graduated in 1976 from the University of Qld. After gaining experience at the Brisbane Dental Hospital, Dr Close travelled to England and worked in a very busy practice for 2 years before returning in 1980.

In 1981 a younger, enthusiastic Dr Paul Close opened the doors to his own dental practice at Eagle Junction on the Northside of Brisbane which serviced his patients until 1986. Dr Close realised at this point, due to the growth and success of his practice, it was time to move to larger premises. So another space was soon transformed into a modern, functional dental practice at Clayfield Courtyard on Sandgate Road.

After eight years, it was obvious again that to meet the needs of the patients and the changing face of dentistry, more space was desirable. The old Clayfield Australia Post Office site was deemed suitable and allowed Dr Close and his team to accommodate all the features they believed were necessary for a dental practice in the 21st Century. In January 2006, it was decided that the practice would be renamed “Close Dental”.

Dr Tom Oliver joined the practice in 2004, followed by Dr Hayden Stewart in 2006, Dr Cate Gerber in 2007 and Dr Andrea Lakatos in 2011. Our patients and team enjoy having female dentists on board to provide some balance. Dr Oliver is now a registered specialist in Orthodontics having completed a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry (Orthodontics) at the University of Queensland. The associate dentists play a major role in assisting Dr Close in providing the exceptional level of service that our patients of Close Dental are accustomed to.

Dr Close understands the importance of keeping his skills current and relevant by investing in continuing education while embracing technology.  He spends on average 14 days per year in furthering his continuing education attending education seminars, dentistry and management courses. Dr Close started extensive training in implantology in 1991 and worked with a leading American dentist who specialized in the Restorative/Rehabilitation of complete mouths in 1992. . The latest training he has been involved in is Invisalign, Lumineers, Snap-On Smiles, Laser Dentistry and Mini Implantology. He has been president of the Implant Society (Qld Branch) and is activity involved in his study association. He is an active member of the ADA (Qld).

Dr Hayden Stewart graduated from the University of Queensland in 1997 and has been a team member of Close Dental since 2006.

Dr Stewart believes that each of his patients should be able to smile both during and after their dental visits.

He has a reputation for pain free injections and a gentle chair side manner, with a keen interest in cosmetic dentistry as well as TMJ disorders. Dr Stewart has extensive training in minimally invasive cosmetic options including Lumineers, Snap on Smiles, Invisalign and a developing interest in implant dentistry. He is also certified to administer [Treatment name removed] for the treatment of jaw pain and headaches.

He enjoys all facets of dentistry with his main interests in Cosmetic and Preventive Dentistry. Dr Stewart also has a special interest in Jaw, Headache and Shoulder pain, more commonly referred to as TMJ conditions. He regularly attends further education seminars and training in all areas of dentistry.

Dr Cate understands that patient comfort always comes first. “I am passionate about helping people maintain their teeth for life. This aim is achieved through us working together with the best materials, using the latest techniques and establishing a sound healthy foundation.” Dr Cate’s aim is for every patient to reach the stage where the only visit to the dentist is a regular thorough examination and polish.

As one of the dentists at Close Dental, Dr Cate Gerber has an interest and vast experience in complex restorative dentistry as well as all facets of cosmetic dentistry.

Dr Cate is a member of the Australian Dental Assocation, International Team of Implantologists, certified Invisalign and Lumineers Dentist, Study club member and regular pilates student. She also supervises “Dentists of the Future” at the University of Queensland on her day off.
