Mentoplasty
The chin plays a vital role in the overall harmony of the human face. A harmonious face cannot be conceived without symmetry between the nose, cheekbones, lips, and chin. All these features, each of them being unique, make a face beautiful. A disproportionate chin, more prominent or more receding in relation to the lips and nose, provides for an unpleasant look to the face as it lacks balance. These deformities can be corrected through the surgical procedure of mentoplasty, which can consist of correcting the long chin, shortening the bony portion, or lengthening the receding chin with the usage of a small silicone prosthesis. This procedure is performed with incisions on the inner part of the lower lip resulting in no visible scarring. This procedure, together with rhinoplasty, and in some cases facial lipofilling, is commonly referred to as profiloplasty. It helps to rebalance all the components of the face by significantly changing the aspect of a patient’s appearance.
