Patients should sleep with their head elevated for three days to keep down any swelling. Patients should avoid touching or scratching the area until the wound is completely healed.

What is Cryotherapy? Cryotherapy is a procedure that uses extreme cold to destroy unwanted tissue – most unwanted skin lesions can be treated in this way, including as warts, moles, skin tags and verucas amongst others. How Does it Work? Tissue cells are destroyed during the procedure when they are rapidly brought down to a low temperature forming ice crystals. The ice crystals break down the structure of the cell and water then fills the surrounding area creating a blister. Healing occurs within 1 to 6 weeks depending on the depth of the freeze. Is it painful? There may be some tingling with the initial freezing, but most patients get an anaesthetic effect from the extreme freezing temperatures. More of a pinching sensation occurs when the area thaws out. Some patients may have some discomfort the day after the first procedure but ibuprofen is usually adequate to alleviate this. Will there be scarring? Typically cryosurgery leaves the least amount of scarring of any form of lesion removal because it causes the least damage to the connective tissue. The area of skin treated will appear lighter than the surrounding skin which usually darkens with new tanning. How many treatments are required? For most conditions, cryosurgery is a permanent removal. Some conditions are harder to remove than others, and in delicate areas a shorter freeze time with repeat procedures may be required to achieve a final result with the least damage to surrounding skin. In other cases, where the condition is deep (such as stubborn warts or verucas) several aggressive treatments may be required to achieve total removal. My problem is a huge birthmark on my face. Another doctor told me that I would not get rid of it completely. After several treatments with the laser I did not see any difference. So I decided to seek the opinion of another doctor. That's how I found Stratford Dermatherapy Clinic - Stratford-upon-Avon. My first meeting with Dr Hugo was very stressful for me, but He made it easy for me to talk about my problem. Mr Hugo approached my case very professionally. I was suggested therapy with Intense Pulsed Light. He did a test on my birthmark which I passed positively and I was able to make an appointment for a full procedure. Already after the first treatment, there was a huge difference. My birthmark was brighter. The treatments are not very painful. Like shooting a rubber band. After three treatments I made a comparison with the photo before the first treatment and after the third one was healed. I cried with happiness with results. Today was my fourth treatment and I can't wait for the next one. I am very grateful for the amazing atmosphere that reduces stress. Therefore, if you have a problem similar to mine, do not wait and make an appointment with Dr Hugo.

She completed research investigating the link between psoriasis and bullous pemphigoid. She was appointed as a consultant at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2008.  As a consultant she has developed a research infrastructure within dermatology at Brighton and also developed a research network across Surrey and Sussex.  She is the dermatology lead for the Clinical Research Network for Kent Surrey and Sussex.   Her main areas of clinical interest are skin lesions including skin cancer, skin surgery and autoimmune skin conditions.  She attended the internationally renowned, Hugh Greenways Superficial Anatomy and Cutaneous Surgery course at the SCRIPPS research Institute, University of California San Diego to develop her surgical skills further and now regularly performs skin cancer surgery including flap and graft repairs

I did work at the hospital when I was younger building the bungalows and maintenance. I never thought I would end up using the hospital, but I must say the staff and Doctors are amazing. I only wish I was in a position to get private insurance as that is the only hospital I would use if I had the choice.
