Mei Zen Acupuncture Clinic - Acupuncture Clinic in Ireland

Mei Zen Acupuncture Clinic

Duke Street, Market Square, Castlebar, F23 Y702
Since 1996 I have been practicing various forms of Complementary medicine. I am passionate in my belief that Acupuncture can and does bring fantastic results. I opened the Mei Zen Clinic of Acupuncture in 2009. I'm registered with the which is one of the longest established and is the largest regulatory body for acupuncture and Chinese medicine in Ireland. What is acupuncture? Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used systems of healing in the world. Originating in China some 3,500 years ago, only in the last three decades has it become popular in the United States Traditional Chinese medicine holds that there are as many as 2,000 acupuncture points on the human body, which are connected by 20 pathways (12 main, 8 secondary) called meridians. These meridians conduct energy, or qi (pronounced "chi"), between the surface of the body and its internal organs. Each point has a different effect on the qi that passes through it. Qi is believed to help regulate balance in the body. It is influenced by the opposing forces of yin and yang, representing positive and negative energy and forces in the universe and the human body. Acupuncture is believed to keep the balance between yin and yang, thus allowing for the normal flow of qi throughout the body and restoring health to the mind and body. Does it hurt? Unlike hypodermic needles, acupuncture needles are solid and hair-thin, and they are not designed to cut the skin. They are also inserted to much more shallow

Acupuncture can also be used to promote general well-being and as a preventative method to illness. It can increase energy, motivation and uplift spirits by relaxing the mind and body. There was absolutely no pain, and it felt like more of a relaxing massageMarian, Ireland, 01 10 18

I had four sessions of acupuncture at this clinic. There was absolutely no pain, and it felt like more of a relaxing massage. Unfortunately, the treatment did not work. I discussed this with the therapist. It was for sciatica and nothing will actually cure this. My first impressions of the clinic were excellent. Each session lasted 45 minutes to an hour. Despite the fact that the treatment didn’t work, the therapist was excellent. I was rather nervous going in, but he really calmed me down. I actually started looking forward to the sessions. He’s marvellous. I’ve left reviews on Facebook and recommend several others.

Fertility Acupuncture from €40
Infertility is the inability to conceive after a year of unprotected intercourse in women under 35, or after six months in women over 35, or the inability to carry a pregnancy to term. Couples who have known bariiers to feritlity, such as endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, male factor infertility, irregular cycles etc., do not need to sit out the traditional "waiting period" to seek expert care for infertility. Herbs have been used to promote infertility for thousands of years and can be considered to be a form of natual fertility medication. It is especailly helpful if there is a scaring of the fallopian tubes, irregular menses, abnormal cells in the reproductive tract, or "unexplained" infertility. It may take several months for the full effect of this herb to come on and pregnancy may not occur until you have used it for a year or two. Men and Women with infertility would be encourage to try acupuncture in addition to their standard medical treatment aasd well.
Acupuncture from €40
The Chinese healing art of acupuncture originates from China 2500 years ago. Now it has become a complete medical and care system using which to encourage the body to promote natural healing and improve function. This approach is proven to be an effective way to maintain good health and to resolve new or lingering health concerns. Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine and sterilized needles into specific points along the meridian channels to achieve a therapeutic effect. Each treatment is tailored which means different Acu-points will be chosen for patients’ benefit. It will stimulate and regulate the flow of the vital Qi (energy) of the body which is, in Traditional Chinese Medicine, the universal force of keeping the balance of the system and restore health. From western medicine point of view, through needling, acupuncture can stimulate the nerve system and activate “endorphin” in our system so as to alter various biochemical and physiological conditions to relieve pain and to ease symptoms. The aim of acupuncture is to correct imbalance of the Qi and to recover physical, emotional and spiritual equilibrium.
Electro-Acupuncture from €40
Electro-acupuncture is the term used to refer to the application of a pulsating electrical current to acupuncture needles, or even without needles, to acupuncture points on the body. This Oriental medicine technique was developed in China in the 1930's, and though it is a fairly recent development in the ancient method of acupuncture, the idea behind it corresponds directly with long-held beliefs. Acupuncture operates on the idea that a person's qi, or life force, runs through body along certain meridians, and that specific points on the body correspond with these meridians. When these points are ‘activated' or stimulated by touch, specific complaints of chronic pain or illnesses can be alleviated. Using a gentle electrical current in conjunction with, or instead of, acupuncture needles, is an alternative way to stimulate the point and enhance the qi.

Since December 2012 I am  an associate practitioner of the women’s natural health practice in the UK run by Dr Trevor Wing. This means that I successfully completed my advanced training with merit in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine  to include  all women’s health issues from gynae, fertility, pregnancy and post partum issues. My training brought me up to date on the latest from China and has also given me invaluable information on the  latest east and west research and western treatments and protocols. The course had a very heavy emphasis on natural care but also a key understanding of knowing when and what to ask regarding western tests and treatments, knowing how to work in an integrated western sitting whilst treating at the same time with acupuncture and herbal treatment.

Fertility acupuncture – male & female, pregnancy, pain management, stress & anxiety, sports injury’s, digestive disorders, cardiovascular health, insomnia, gynecological issues, hormonal imbalance, IVF support, headaches & migraines, immunity, general well-being and much more… I specialise in women’s health especially fertility, gynecology & pregnancy. By enhancing your overall health, you improve the health of your reproductive system, customized diet and lifestyle plans lay the foundation for a healthy pregnancy. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, perfect health is understood to be a perfect balance of Yin & Yang, necessary but opposing natural forces. The underlying principle behind TCM is that Qi or vital energy flows through our body in pathways or channels known as meridians. Pain or illness occurs when this Qi or vital energy is blocked and is unable to flow freely within these meridians, signifying that the body is out of balance. Acupuncture & Naturopathy work to  and maintain the body’s natural balance by stimulating its own healing response. The aim is to treat the whole person, so it can be effective for a wide range of problems — physical, mental and emotional. I firmly believe in treating the ‘whole person’ by using a combination of natural healing techniques including nutrition, diet, lifestyle advice, flower remedies and tissue salts in conjunction with Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. I am a fully qualified Acupuncturist & Naturopath
