What are Metal Braces?

Metal Braces are orthodontic appliances made of stainless steel or titanium. They are suitable for patients of all ages. They are the cheapest among braces and are considered the most effective. Once fitted, metal braces exert pressure on the tooth to move it to the correct position. Orthodontists adjust the wires of metal braces at every appointment to make sure that the tooth moves correctly. It takes about one to three hours to fit metal braces.

For how long should I wear Metal Braces?

Patients need to wear metal braces for two to four years. The time taken to correct tooth alignment depends on the age of the patient and the needs of each individual patient.

Is having Metal Braces fitted painful?

Fitting metal braces is not a painful procedure. Patients will feel pain and discomfort after the braces are fitted, as pressure is exerted on the teeth to move them to their new position. The pain and discomfort diminishes as patients get used to their braces.

How are Metal Braces fitted?

The orthodontist will polish the teeth and paint the front surfaces with glue. The metal brackets will be pasted onto the teeth. A curing light is focused to fix the brackets. The orthodontist will thread a wire through the brackets and then place wires around the brackets to hold them in place.

What care is required after fitting Metal Braces?

Patients should practice proper dental hygiene and brush and floss their teeth correctly. Patients should use fluoride toothpaste. They should not eat hard or chewy food items that will damage their braces. Patients should attend their orthodontist appointments to ensure the correct fianl position of the teeth is achieved.

For years, these braces have provided beautifully straight teeth for both adults and children, enhancing smiles and building self-confidence. They use precision-engineered metal brackets, which are strong and small to improve comfort and appearance. You can choose to customise the braces with different colours of elastic bands around the metal brackets. This option is particularly popular with patients who are under 18. The brace uses finely engineered ceramic brackets, which are crystal-strong and heat-polished to be nearly invisible on the teeth. We would like to share with you our interesting journey as to how we became owners of such a fantastic practice. There has been a dental practice at 251 Jockey Road since 1956. In 1985 David and Deborah Hughes took over the practice and ran it together for 28 years. Both Kate and I without knowing one another were patients of David and Deborah from our early teens. After many years of asking David how to become a Dentist I eventually opted to become a Dentist and qualified from the University of Birmingham in 2006. I met my wife Kate in 2007 whilst snowboarding in the Alps and we eventually married in 2012. It was somewhat amusing when we realised our families shared the same Dentist. Having got to know David and Deborah over many years, we were extremely proud to have been asked to take over the running of Boldmere Dental Practice. I had intensive treatment performed by Adam after damage done to my upper teeth and gums/bone by a previous dentist. A sinus lift, bone graft, implants and crowns. All done without a sedative - only the usual injections in the mouth. (You can choose to have a sedative of course). I felt absolutely no pain during the many procedures over several months. After each operation I did exactly what Adam advised in regards to pain management. Again, I was pain free 24/7. All treatments were successful with no infection present. I am thrilled to bits with the results - I never have to think about them in anyway. I use a waterpic water flosser and clean my teeth twice a day. It's nearly 3 years later, I have my regular check ups and clean; no treatments/fillings required since! Superb attention to detail from Adam and great assistance from his team. It's worth every penny you spend on getting your smile back! Thanks a million to Adam and the Dental suite team. Ann.
